Calvin Kam elevated as buildingSMART International Fellow

Congratulations to our Founder & CEO, Calvin Kam for being elevated as a buildingSMART Fellow at the buildingSMART International Standards Summit in Rome, Italy last month!!

Humbled and honored to be elevated as a Fellow of buildingSMART International here in Rome tonight. Thank you for all my mentors and role models throughout my career. Will continue to serve for a better built environment!

Calvin Kam, bSI Fellow, FAIA, PhD, CCBM — visionary, educator and entrepreneur — promotes and advances industry transformation optimizing value, quality and resiliency of the global built environment through research, education, policy, practical implementation and technology development. As an expert in owner-focused innovation, Dr. Kam pioneered, and lead the adoption of, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and BIM-based innovative practice for public and private owners for more than 20 years.

Appointed by the Chief Executive of buildingSMART International (bSI), Dr. Calvin Kam is the Founding Chapter President of the buildingSMART USA Chapter since 2020. Calvin is one of the three Directors serving on the Executive Committee of buildingSMART USA and is the Chair of the Education and Professional Certification Committee. Dr. Kam has been been an International Advisor, International Expert, Guest Speaker, Global Ambassador, Invited Facilitator for bSI and 9 buildingSMART Chapters including: Australasia, China, Hong Kong, Nordic, North America, Norway, USA, Singapore, and South Korea since 20 years ago.

Our Fellows come from very varied backgrounds and have willingly contributed their time and experience to make buildingSMART the thriving and influential organization it is today. In making these awards, we acknowledge our debt of gratitude.

buildingSMART recognizes volunteers and professional contributors who have faithfully served buildingSMART’s operations for many years with the honorary status of buildingSMART Fellows.  These individuals have made significant contributions to the work of buildingSMART and the advancement of BIM. 

buildingSMART Fellows have contributed substantial leadership or technical input at an international level, working on international programs or standards or with more than one chapter.  Fellows are awarded the status at select buildingSMART summits and presented with a gold pin.
