Hong Kong openBIM Roadmap

Commissioned by Hong Kong's Buildings Department (BD) to serve as the expert advisory team, SBI partnered with BD to host the third major session of the first stakeholder engagement on Adopting Building Information Modelling for Statutory Submissions under the Buildings Ordinance. This hybrid event convened over 300 industry professionals, where SBI shared insights on the implementation of BIM in Hong Kong and globally.

Participants were given the opportunity to engage directly with SBI, asking questions and providing their professional feedback and suggestions through an online survey. These valuable inputs would help SBI to develop a framework for the preparation and submission of building plans using BIM, tailored for the Hong Kong context.

Following this session, SBI hosted a fourth session with departments and organizations from the Centralised Processing System, with participants representing over 20 organizations.

After four sessions, the SBI team has thoroughly analyzed the collected feedback and will be proposing recommended solutions to address potential challenges and technical issues. We look forward to another round of stakeholder engagement that is planned for mid-2025 to further refine the framework.
