Approach

Working alongside CEDD, AtkinsRéalis, and Build King, SBI played a central role in translating open standards into a practical, high-stakes delivery workflow. Building on SBI's long-standing collaboration with the Lands Department and the foundation of the 2022 buildingSMART International award-winning IDS submission, the team connected General Building Plan (GBDR) and Underground Utility Information System (UUIS) requirements into a single, structured data environment. A key technical innovation was the use of Blender Bonsai to automate the injection of GIS attributes into the BIM environment — solving the industry-wide challenge of UUIS synchronization and ensuring all deliverables were optimized for Hong Kong's future smart city infrastructure. The result is a replicable, policy-aligned workflow that supports not only construction delivery today, but reliable asset and utility management for decades to come.
