Approach

SBI led a focused 3-hour pre-conference workshop co-sponsored by buildingSMART International, buildingSMART Brasil, buildingSMART Portugal, and buildingSMART USA. The session opened with an exploration of eight proven categories of openBIM benefits, drawing on real-world global examples to ground the discussion in tangible outcomes. Participants then worked collaboratively to analyze the role of targets and metrics, before engaging in a structured prioritization exercise across a comprehensive list of openBIM metrics. Through informed debate and cross-border exchange, the group reached consensus on the two highest-priority benefit categories: Communications & Decision-making, and Procurement & Delivery Process. Attendees expressed strong interest in advancing the initiative further through case studies and real-world applications, setting the stage for the upcoming global release of the openBIM Business Value Metrics framework.

"The room was buzzing with energy — all participants were extremely engaged and collaborative, which led to rich discussions and productive debates."
